Second Battle of Kharkov

The last major German victory of World War II. Led by Field Marshal Manstein, the Germans retook the city of Kharkov from the Soviets in bitter street fighting. Kharkov had originally been captured in 1942, but had been taken by the Soviets following the German defeat at Stalingrad. The Second Battle of Kharkov left the city only temporarily in Axis hands; the Germans were soon driven out once again.
