Shane

Shane is a 1953 western film which tells the story of a gunfighter who comes to a town and sides with the farmers versus the cattle men. It stars Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin, Brandon De Wilde, Jack Palance, Ben Johnson, Edgar Buchanan, Emile Meyer and Elisha Cook Jr.

The movie was written by Jack Schaefer, A.B. Guthrie Jr and Jack Sher. It was directed by George Stevens.

It won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography, Color. It was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Brandon De Wilde), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Jack Palance), Best Director, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay.

Shane was remade as a television series in 1966, starring David Carradine. The original film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
