Snowdonia is a region of north Wales and a National Park, of area 2170 square kilometres (838 square miles). It was the first to be designated of the three National Parks of Wales, in 1951.


The left hand ridge of Tryfan (in this picture) makes an enjoyable scramble in Snowdonia. Tryfan is 915 metres (3002 feet) high, the eleventh highest mountain in Wales.

The area is renowned for its spectacular mountainous scenery and is popular with tourists.

The area is named after Snowdon (in Welsh Yr Wyddfa), which is the highest mountain in Wales at 1085 metres (3560 feet).
