Spede Pasanen

Pertti "Spede" Pasanen (April 4 1930 - September 7 2001) was a Finnish film director, humorist and practitioner of gags.

During his career he directed about 50 movies and participated in numerous TV productions.

He is considered emblematic of Savonian humor. A slick ironic patter variegating between the fullest extremes of understatement and hyperbole. Much of his more commercial work was in collaboration with Vesa-Matti Loiri.

Envied for his intelligence, financial success and ability to draw in ladies of pulchritudenous value, he is the godfather and idol of many who make attempts at Finnish humor. He was also very good Don Juan and he was almost married in 1990 with one finnish model. Miss Suomi candinate.

Inventor of real substance, many of his films include Rube Goldberg style gadgets.

The genuine inventions he made include:

  • Ski jumping sling
  • Boat ski (to alleviate *bumps* in aquaplaning boat)
  • Candlestick for all sizes of candle, which will selfextinguish.
