Stelis

Stelis is a large genus in the Orchid family with perhaps 500 species of plants distributed throughout tropical America. They are closely related to the massive genus Pleurothallis. Although vegetatively the species show much variety, the flowers show a basic uniformity and are very similar throughout. The three sepals generally form a triangle with a small central structure made up of the column, small petals and small lip, though slight variation to this theme does occour.

Below are a few examples of the genus:

  • S. argentata
  • S. ciliaris
  • S. gemma
  • S. glomerosa
  • S. stevensonii
