Steny Hoyer
Steny Hamilton Hoyer (born
June 14 1939),
American politician,
has been a
Democratic
member of the
United States House of Representatives since
1981,
representing the 5th District of
Maryland. He was born in
New York City,
was educated at the
University of Maryland and
Georgetown University, and was a lawyer and member of the Maryland Senate before entering
the House. He was chair of the House Democratic Caucus
1989 to
2003 and has been House Minority Whip since
2003.
