Tactical high energy laser

The Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) is a laser developed for military use.

On November 4, 2002, THEL shot down an incoming artillery shell. In 2000 and 2001 THEL shot down 25 Katyushas artillery rockets. A mobile version is in development.

Explains head of the Missile Defense Command, Army Lt. General Joseph Cosumano, "We've shown that even an artillery projectile hurtling through the air at supersonic speed is no match for a laser."
