Terry Carr

Terry Carr (Born, 1937, Grants Pass, Oregon - 1987) was a science fiction author and editor. Carr was an enthusiastic publisher of "fanzines" (fan magazines) for science fiction which opened his way into the professional publishing world. Though he published some fiction in the early 1960s, Carr concentrated on editing. He first worked at Ace Books, establishing the Ace Science Fiction Specials series which published, among other things, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin and Rite of Passage by Alexei Panshin.

After conflicting with Ace head Donald A. Wollheim, he worked freelance. He edited an original story anthology series called Universe, and a popular series of Best of the Year anthologies that ran from 1972 until his death in 1987.

  • Novel: Cirque, 1977
  • Collection: The Light at the End of the Universe, 1976
  • Anthology: Best Science Fiction of the Year #1 - #16 (1972-1987)
