The Hospital

The Hospital is a 1971 black comedy which tells the story of a suicidal Chief of Medicine whose life becomes even more bizarre as doctors and staff of the hospital mysteriously begin to die. It stars George C. Scott, Diana Rigg, Barnard Hughes, Richard A. Dysart, Stephen Elliott, Nancy Marchand and Roberts Blossom. It should not be confused with a 1970 documentary called Hospital.

The movie was written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Arthur Hiller.

It won the Oscar for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay Based on Factual Material or Material Not Previously Published or Produced (Paddy Chayefsky), and was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (George C. Scott) (he lost to Gene Hackman in The French Connection).

The film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
