The Jesus & Mary ChainThe Jesus & Mary Chain were a British group formed in 1984 in Glasgow. Their debut single, on Creation Records, was "Upside Down", a massive success in the UK and the first major selling release for Alan McGee's fledgling label. For their debut album Psychocandy (1985) they moved to the WEA/Rough Trade startup, Blanco Y Negro, retaining McGee as their manager. The LP was only moderately successful in terms of sales, but has greatly influenced the development of indie, alternative and grunge music. 1992's Honey's Dead established a singnificant audience in the US, which was continued by Stoned and Dethroned in 1994, which included "Sometimes Always". After an album of b-sides, the Jesus & Mary Chain returned to Creation in the UK (moving to Sub Pop in the States) and toured their final album 'Munki', breaking up in 1999. |
