U.S. Highway 9

United States Highway 9 is a north-south United States highway in the states of Delaware, New Jersey, and New York in the United States. It is one of only two U.S. highways with a ferry connection (between Lewes, Delaware and Cape May, New Jersey) -- the other being U.S. 10.

The highway is mentioned in the lyrics of the song "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen.

Termini

As of 2004, the highway's northern terminus is just north of Champlain in Clinton County, New York at the Canadian border, where it continues as Provincial Highway 217 (or merges with Interstate 87 just south of the border -- sources are uncertain). Its southern terminus is in Laurel, Delaware at an intersection with U.S. Highway 13.

Alternate Routes

As of 2004, the highway has one uniquely numbered spur - United States Highway 9W. U.S. 9W connects with U.S. 9 at both ends -- in Fort Lee, New Jersey and Albany, New York. U.S. 9 runs up the east side of the Hudson River; 9W runs up the west side.
