Uri Avnery

Uri Avnery (born September 10, 1923) is an Israeli radical left activist and a publicist. Avnery was the editor of tabloid "Haolam HaZe" which was known for his scoops and scandals, as well for a pornography section in the back page. After the tabloid was closed, Avnery formed and leaded the extereme left Gush Shalom movement - a Pro Palestinian group that not affraid to engage vandelist actions against Israeli soldiers.

Avneri is known for his extreme leftist opinions relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well for his close friendship with Yasser Arafat. Avneri's visits to Arafat's compound in Ramallah were denounced as treason - even by some moderate left activists.

Although hailed as "peace activist" by the Europeans, Avnery is considered a traitor among the general Israeli public. Even moderate left politicians find his radical and anti-Israeli opinion and his close relationships with Arafat disturbing.

Following his article blaming the Jews in controling the world via controling America (1), (2) he was denounced as antisemite by merely everyone.
