Utti Jaeger Regiment

The Utti Jaeger Regiment (Finnish: Utin Jääkärirykmentti) is the Finnish Defence Forces training and development centre for special forces and helicopter operations. It consists of about 500 personnel of which about 200 are conscripts.

Special forces

The airborne jaeger school trains special forces for the whole Defence Force. Conscripts are trained in both long range recon and Sissi operations.

New NH90 transport helicopters have been ordered and will be deployed to Utti.

History

The regiment was formed in 1997 from the old Parachute School, the Finnish Air Forces Helicopter Flight, and the Armoured Brigades MP school.

The finnish special forces trace their history to the four long-range patrol units (Kaukopartio-osastot) of the 4th Detached Battalion (Erillinen Pataljoona 4) which fought in the Continuation War.
