Vitali Zholobov

Vitali Mikhailovich Zholobov (born June 18 1937 in Zburjevka, Ukraine) was a Soviet cosmonaut who flew on one space flight - Soyuz 21, as the flight engineer.

He joined the space programme from the Soviet Air Force where he held the rank of Colonel-engineer.

His one trip into space involved a two-month stay on the Salyut 5 space station, during which Zholobov developed terrible space-sickness. Due to this, and perhaps other reasons, the mission had to be cut short.

Although he never flew again, he stayed in the space programme until 1981 when he resigned to become director of a geological science research group.
