Wood Warbler

Wood Warbler
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Sylviidae
Genus: Phylloscopus
Species: sibilatrix
Binomial name
Phylloscopus sibilatrix
This article refers to the Eurasian leaf warbler. For Americann wood warblers, see New World warbler.

The Wood Warbler, Phylloscopus sibilatrix , is a common and widespread leaf warbler which breeds throughout northern and temperate Europe and Asia.

This warbler is strongly migratory and the entire population winters in tropical Africa.

This is a bird of open but shady woodlands, such as beech and sessile oak, with some ground cover for nesting. The nest is built near the ground in low shrub. Like most Old World warblers, this small passerine is insectivorous.

This is a typical leaf warbler in appearance, dark green above and off-white below. It can be distinguished from similar species, like the Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita and the Willow Warbler, Phylloscopus trochilus by its yellow supercilum, throat and upper breast, pale tertial edges, and a longer primary projection.

Its song is a simple repetitive metallic trill.
