World Financial Center
The World Financial Center is a complex of buildings across West Street form the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, New York City This complex is home to offices of major corporations including Merrill Lynch, American Express, Lehman Brothers, among others.The complex was built 1985-1988 on landfill used to build Battery Park City. The fill material is made up of dirt excavated during the building of the World Trade Center, as well as garbage, dirt and debris.
The buildings include:
- One World Financial Center (1986), height 577 feet/176 meters, 40 stories
- Two World Financial Center (1986), height 645 feet/197 meters, 44 stories
- Three World Financial Center (1985), height 739 feet/225 meters, 51 stories
- Four World Financial Center (1986) height 500 feet/152 meters, 34 stories
- Winter Garden (1988) a glass pavilon housing various plants, trees and flowers, also shopping areas, cafes (located between buildings 2 and 3)
- 1: a square, sloping top
- 2: round dome
- 3: pyramid
- 4: square, with several "steps"
