World Trade Center Memorial

In spring 2003, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation launched an international competition to design a permanent World Trade Center memorial to commemorate the lives lost in the September 11 attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center.

5,201 teams from the United States and from around the world contributed design proposals. On November 19th, 2003, the 13 member jury selected 8 finalists, and is expected to select a final design from the World Trade Center Memorial finalists by the end of 2003. All 5,201 designs are expected to be put on public display in New York City sometime in late 2003.

The 5,201 World Trade Center Memorial proposals were authored by people from all walks of life, and reflected a wide range of approaches to the memorial. (If you know someone who submitted a design, encourage them to add it to the World Trade Center Memorial proposals wiki.
