Years of the Trees

In the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, the Years of the Trees are one of the three great time-periods of Arda. They follow the Years of the Lamps and precede the First Age of the Years of the Sun, and are known to comprise several Ages. Their precise length is not known, but may be inferred to be about 10,500 years.

They are named after the Two Trees of Valinor that gave light to Aman during this time. Their beginning is the creation of the Two Trees by Yavanna, shortly after the destruction by Morgoth of the Two Lamps. Their end is the Return of the Noldor to Middle-earth, shortly after the destruction by Morgoth and Ungoliant of the Two Trees. Notable events of this time include the awakening of the Elves and the Dwarves.
